Abstract

This collection consists of approximately 1,700 items, in six boxes and one flat folder, and covers the dates 1740-1950. The collection is comprised of a very wide variety of legal, governmental, business, school, and church records, as well as personal papers, all primarily from the Central Shenandoah Valley (Rockingham, Shenandoah, Augusta, and Page counties). Most are originals, but some facsimiles are included.

The John L. Heatwole Collection of Shenandoah Valley History, 1802-1901, consists of three folders containing 102 items pertaining to Shenandoah Valley history. The collection is arranged topically into three folders: General Valley Documents, Page County Documents, and Recipes.

The Manley Family Papers, 1707-1953, consist of various documents pertaining to the Manley family's personal, genealogical, and business activities, covering several Virginia and West Virginia counties. Included in the collection are letters written by family members and an assortment of legal papers detailing taxes and land deeds.

Abstract The Mattie E. Mowry Farm Ledger, 1896-1926, includes 342 pages, of which, 213 pages are blank. Ledger begins with inventory following expense and sales trackers including grain, livestock, animal products, labor, bills, and miscellaneous. Inside the ledger were a large number of laid in papers that include calculations, personal notes, and tax statements. The McPheeters, Harper, and Swartzle Papers, 1849-1875, include annual membership receipts for the Virginia Central Agricultural Society for A.A. McPheeters and Miss Mary J. McPheeters, a list of the appraised property of Mrs. M.R. Harper, and an article of agreement between Ira Swartzle, David Swartzle, and J. William Sheetz.
