Administrative History

The State Normal and Industrial School for Women branch of the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) was established in 1909, during the first term of the school. There were 72 founding members (representing approximately half of the student body), and it eventually grew to 100 members by the end of 1909. In its first year, the YWCA organized seven Bible-study classes and a mission study class. In its early years, YWCA held weekly devotional meetings and sponsored informal social events for the students.
